Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized incentive reading program to be used independently by students. It is a simple procedure. A student reads a book that is on our AR list. Each book has a designated point value based on its length and difficulty. After finishing the book, the student then takes a quiz on the book. This can be done in their classrooms or in the library. Usually, the quizzes consist of 5 to 15 questions that are based on the content of the book. A student must achieve 60% or higher on a quiz to receive points. The program keeps track of a student's accumulated points. Please remember that AR is not a remedial reading program. Its purpose is to encourage reading and improve independent reading skills. The students will be able to view their progress in the program by checking the Accelerated Reader bulletin board. This will be located just outside the library and students names will be added and moved as they gain points. This is a fun way for them to chart their progress and be proud of their hard work. The point goals for this year are: 5th Grade - 55 points Students will earn raffle tickets for points. At the end of the year party, we will have a drawing for books. Students can earn up to 5 raffle tickets based on the following table of points: Points needed for raffle tickets
