The more that you read,

the more things you will know.

The more you learn,

the more places you'll go.

Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader Program will begin for students in third through fifth grade in October.  Second grade students will begin taking quizzes the beginning of December. The Accelerated Reader, or AR for short, is a computerized reading program which gives our children the ability to take well-constructed, comprehensive quizzes on a wide selection of books and receive immediate feedback on their work.

Here is how it works:

  1. Students select an Accelerated Reader book.  You can view the list of AR quizzes by clicking here or by going to the link on the school web page.  You can also find a print listing at the school library and at the Smithtown Public Library.
  2. Students read the book.
  3. Students take a quiz using the classroom or school library computers.  Those students reaching grade level goals will be invited to a party sponsored by the PTA in June.

All students who reach 10 points will receive an AR pencil. The library will post the names of the students who reach their goals.

These are the point goals:

Grade 5 – 50 points

Grade 4 – 40 points

Grade 3 – 30 points

Grade 2 – 20 points

All students have the opportunity to select AR books from the school library each week during their scheduled library time.
