Smithtown High School East Art & Media Education

  

  

Students working in Mr. Needles Media Arts classes using digital cameras, editors, and computers to create their own short animated films.

 

 

 Tim Needles Biography

Mr. Tim Needles is in his tenth year of teaching fine and media arts at 

Smithtown High School East.  He is the advisor of the Media Art Honor Society, 

the founder of The Strictly Students Film Festival, and a chairman

of the Industry Advisory Board.  Mr. Needles is also an Adobe Master Teacher,

 and continues to work as freelance media artist and writer.

Smithtown is currently working with artist Mel Chin on Project Paydirt in order to raise funds and awareness for Hurricane Katrina relief in Louisiana.

The 4th annual filmmakers bootcamp will be held in Janurary at Smithtown High School East.  We will cover many different aspects of the film industry including: Animation, Storyboarding, Directing, Screenwriting, Narrative film, Documentary film, Comedy, Screenwriting, Graphic Design & Packaging, Digital Editing with Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects, and a parents workshop.

NEW YORK STATE LEARNING STANDARDS for the ARTS

1. Creating, Performing and Participating in the Arts: Students will make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes, and metaphors.

2. Knowing and Using Art Materials and Resources: Students will know and use a variety of visual arts materials, techniques, and processes.

3. Responding to and Analyzing Works of Art: Students will reflect on, interpret, and evaluate works of art, using the language of art criticism.

4. Understanding Cultural Dimensions and Contributions of the Arts: Students will explore art and artifacts from various historical periods and world cultures to discover the roles that art plays in the lives of people of a given time and place.
