The 2006 Strictly Students Filmmakers Bootcamp

October 14, 2006 at the Smithtown High School East Theater

The 2nd annual filmmakers bootcamp was held last week at Smithtown High School East.  Our new screenwriting competition was premiered along with free workshops in various aspects of film.  We held workshops in Animation, Storyboarding, Directing, Narrative film, Documentary film, Comedy, Screenwriting, Graphic Design & Packaging, Digital Editing with Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects, and a parents workshop.  Presenters included an Oscar nominated producer Peter Bove,  Joseph Kluge a director and producer of True Colors and The Addams Family, Long Island International Film Expo winning director Mike Prywes, Storyboard artist Mike Arnold, Animator Peter Grass, Long Island screenwriter George Giokis, graphic designers Andrew and Ken Janosick, comedy director Mike Fasano, and educator and Adobe Master Teacher Tim Needles.

        The second annual Strictly Students Film Festival, a juried student media art and film festival encompassing all the high schools in Nassau and Suffolk, was held on April 22, 2006 at the Smithtown High School West.   Thirty finalists were chosen from over fifty films from across Long Island.  This years festival will featured four different categories of work: feature, documentary, comedy, and animation as well as a special section for package and poster design.

        We are currently working on securing sponsors for next years festival and bootcamp.  If you are interested in assisting in any way please contact the committee at strictlystudents@aol.com.

The 2005 Strictly Students Film Festival

April 1 - 2, 2005 at the Smithtown High School Auditorium

        Mr. Tim Needles and the Arts and Communications Committee of the Industry Advisory Board are coordinating a juried student media art and film festival encompassing all the high schools in Nassau and Suffolk to take place April 1-2, 2005 at the Smithtown High School and the event is free and open to the public. 

        This festival will be the first of its kind on Long Island, and it will feature three different categories of work: feature, documentary, and animation.  Each school district may enter up to three films.  We anticipate giving cash scholarships to students in each category, as well as a corresponding technological prize to the winning high school. 

        We are currently working on securing sponsors for the student and school district awards.  If you are interested in assisting in any way please contact the committee at strictlystudents@aol.com.

Suffolk County Legislative Awards

On June 7, 2005 the Suffolk County Legislature presented special awards to all four of The Strictly Students Film Festival winners and the festival creator, Tim Needles 

 

We received forty films from twenty different high schools on Long Island.  The following schools have semi-finalist entries:

Film Festival Poster Contest

The Creative Spotlight Club and Staffwriters Plus sponsored a Strictly Student Film Festival Poster Contest to create a Poster for the festival which has been reproduced and is being distributed throughout Long Island.  Ten finalists and one winner were chosen from over one hundred entries.  Congratulations to our winner Katherine form Advertising Design class!  The award will be presented by Staffwriters Plus at Smithtown's next Industry Advisory Board meeting February 10 at 3pm in the Smithtown high school Library.

Strictly Student Film Festival T-shirts & Posters

The Strictly Students t-shirts and posters are available and can be shipped anywhere in the United States.  Posters are $10 and t-shirts are $20 in sizes S, M, L, XL, XXL, & XXXL (price includes shipping).

The Strictly Students Film Festival would like to thank our sponsors Showtime, North Fork Bank, Nikon, and Adobe for supporting the talent and creativity of Long Island's film students and media departments.

                    

We would also like to thank Cablevision for sponsoring and helping us produce our Public Service Announcement which aired on cable television networks.  The P. S. A. was filmed by and features Smithtown students from Mr. Needles' film and media art classes.
