Middle School Health
The Smithtown Central Schools
7th and 8th grade Health Education Program includes two ten week courses, one
ten week course for 7th graders and one for 8th graders. These two courses
include student objectives consistent with both the State and National Health
Education Standards. The units of study include mental health, growth and
development, family living, nutrition, first aid, character education and
alcohol tobacco and other drug education. The activities and student performance
indicators include experiences that involve critical thinking skills, decision
making skills and development of self esteem. Student assessments include
quizzes, tests, homework, class work and portfolio. A student workbook is
provided entitled Changes and Challenges. This book is part of the Lions Quest:
"Skills for Adolescence's" program. This program is recognized as a program that
works by the Federal Government. |
